L2K or L2L?
Many of you have asked which curriculum will be used for NCC. We're planning to use Learn To Lead and Aerospace Dimensions 2nd Ed for the 2012 competition.
UPDATED FORMS AND NCC NEWS
The updated NCCF 1 has room for your closest airport and t-shirt sizes for the team members and escorts.
The NCCF 6 will be used for parental consent and liability waiver and must be completed by each team member, escort, or staff member. Escorts will keep and maintain this material for their teams.
Volleyball clarification: USA volleyball Rules are intended for tournament play by established leagues. The spirit of NCC is to have each team member participate in every event, thus we will continue to rotate positions
on each serve. Games will be played to 21 points.
PLANES, TRAINS, and AUTOMOBILES. There are always questions regarding travel and I can clear up a couple of them.
With our return to Dayton, the support plan for teams flying to the competition will be for the Dayton International Airport only.
I will clarify air travel with teams once the region competitions are completed.
Both escorts from each team must have a CAP Driver's ID.
THE SAFETY DANCE. As in years past, we rely on the team escorts to provide leadership and supervision for their teams.
This will include the requirements listed in the Interim Change Letter dated 3 November 2010 regarding Safety Education.
This is in addition to the requirements listed in the 21 December post "Team ORM and RST Requirements"
Team ORM & RST Requirements
NCC is unlike most other cadet activities in CAP. The NCC Staff facilitates the competition, but the Region POC and Escorts remain responsible for ensuring the well being of their cadets throughout the event.
Self imposed stress and peer pressures are also both potential hazards to competitors and escorts.
Escorts are encouraged to discuss ways of relieving stress with their teams.
With this in mind, please ensure the following steps have occurred BEFORE reporting in to NCC:
• All escorts must have completed Basic and Intermediate ORM courses and tests (capmembers.com/orm).
• Escorts will conduct Required Staff Training (RST) as it pertains to NCC with the newest materials available at http://capmembers.com/cadet_programs/library/proving-grounds/.
• Escorts and competitors 18 and older must have completed CPPT (capmembers.com/cppt).
The Senior Escort for each team will be expected to verify compliance with the above during the sign-in process.
The NCC Safety Officer will review the key points of the staff & team ORM analyses with the participants as part of the initial briefing. Input from Team Captains will also be welcome at that time.
NCDT & NCGC Ribbons
Questions and comments always arrise as to who may wear the ribbons connected with NCC.
According to CAPR 39-3.F.20:
b. National Cadet Competition Ribbon.
Awarded for participation in the National Cadet Drill Competition. Senior Members who earned this ribbon as a cadet may continue to wear the ribbon.
(1) The basic ribbon will be worn by cadets who are the winner of the wing competition and/or cadets selected to represent the wing at a region competition. A bronze star will be affixed for the winners of the region competition, and a silver star will be worn by the sweepstakes winners of the national competition. Repetitive awards may be recognized by wearing additional stars in the appropriate competition level. Senior members who earned this ribbon as a cadet may continue to wear the ribbon
(2) The ribbon may also be awarded to a maximum of six senior members per team, who were responsible for escorting, chaperoning and training their respective teams at the wing, region and national level competitions. The CAP project officer at each level must nominate the appropriate senior members to receive this ribbon. Bronze or silver stars may be worn on the ribbon in the same manner as prescribed for cadet participants.
c. National Color Guard Competition Ribbon.
(1) The basic ribbon will be worn by cadets who are the winner of the wing competition and/or cadets selected to represent the wing at a region competition. A bronze star will be affixed for the winners of the region competition, and a silver star will be worn by the sweepstakes winner of the national competition. Repetitive awards may be recognized by wearing additional stars in the appropriate competition level.
(2) The ribbon may also be awarded to a maximum of three senior members per team, who were responsible for escorting, chaperoning and training their respective teams at the wing, region and national level competitions. The CAP project officer at each level must nominate the appropriate senior members to receive this ribbon. Bronze or silver stars may be worn on the ribbon in the same manner as prescribed for cadet participants.
Awarded for participation in the National Color Guard Competition. Senior Members who earned this ribbon as a cadet may continue to wear the ribbon.
It is appropriate for the Region POC IAW the reg to nominate senior members connected to the Color Guard or Drill Team representing that Region at NCC.
Is the format of NCC changing?
Members have been justifably confused about the format of events for NCC given the discussion about changing to a more wholistic program.
To be clear, no changes have been approved or codified in Manual 52-4.
We expect the 2012 competition to be similar to previous years.
Should the volunteer leadership direct a change we will announce it then and work with the members to have the best NCC possible.
