Do you want to pursue careers in engineering technology?  Are you interested in cutting-edge aerospace technologies?  Are you considering becoming an engineer, but you’re unsure of your aptitude, or even what engineers do? If that sounds like you, then you should attend “E-Tech.”

At Middle Tennessee State University, a major comprehensive institution just outside of Nashville, you’ll be introduced to several aerospace and engineering disciplines by completing hands-on projects and learning from professors whose work has garnered national and world-wide notice.

 

The MTSU Aerospace faculty represents a broad range of experience and education. Most faculty are pilots in addition to having a field of specialization. The faculty members are widely recognized and respected within the industry for their knowledge and experience. They are also well known for their willingness to work with and advise students, giving these students the benefit of their real world and real life experience.

Aerospace:

MTSU’s Aerospace Department is has grown into one of the most respected aerospace programs in the nation. Fifteen full-time faculty members, 35 flight instructors, and over 700 majors places it among the largest of the nation's collegiate aviation programs. Students from 32 states and 16 foreign countries have been drawn to study here. Aerospace graduates hold responsible positions with companies throughout the United States and Internationally. During your visit, you will sample:

  • Unnamed aircraft systems orientation: MTSU’s new Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Operations concentration, within the B.S. in Aerospace degree, is the first of its kind in the state and one of only a handful in the United States. You’ll see these aircraft and learn about this program.
  • Pilot training orientation: Growing out of WWII pilot training on campus, MTSU's Aerospace department has become one of the nation's largest and most respected collegiate aviation programs. You’ll learn about MTSU’s program and view its fleet of aircraft, including a 727.
  • Aerospace technology orientation: MTSU's Aerospace department has become one of the nation's largest and most respected collegiate aviation programs. Whether you want to learn to fly the planes or to keep them safe both in the air and on the ground, there's no better place for your career to approach take off.

Engineering Technology:

MTSU's Engineering Technology program excels at placing students in contact with industry professionals in a stimulating and encouraging environment in which to acquire and test the skills and knowledge they will need after college. When it comes to engineering technology, classroom discussion can only go so far in exposing students to the challenges posed by the real world.

  • Mechatronics Engineering: The new degree program is on the cutting edge of a fast-growing industry. Jobs are waiting for engineers to design and enhance robotics and automated systems. You will learn how the design process of mechatronics combines mechanical, computer, and electrical engineering along with systems integration and technical project management. 
  • Experimental Vehicles Program (EVP): You will learn how this program comprises four different undergraduate research projects. From moonbuggies and solar boats to SAE Formula One and SAE Mini Baja racing, you will see how our teams take part in national and even global competitions while gaining valuable experience on how to work in a collaborative environment.

College of Basic and Applied Sciences:

You will sample the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at MTSU (CBAS), which is a diverse set of departments that includes the basic sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), Mathematics, and Computer Science as well as Aerospace, Agriculture, Concrete Industry Management, Engineering Technology, Geosciences, and Military Science.
